Best Christmas Ever

Aaand... it's that time of year again. The air's cold, there's happiness and hope all around, and the sound of carols drift around everywhere you go. Yep, it's Christmastime once again.

Every December, I make up my mind to include myself in every single Christmas activity. Whether it's going caroling, decorating the house, shopping for family, or attending every get-together I'm invited to, I always end up in a tizzy. But not this year. I've decided to make this one of my best Christmases ever- and I mean ever.

For starters, I'm going to stop jumping into a hundred holiday activities and only do a select few. Attending three parties in a day? No. Having a nice, special family dinner? Yes. Buying presents for all my friends and family? Nope. (Sorry, Bob.) Gifting a certain few a thoughtful present? Yep.

See, Christmas isn't what malls and multinational corporations make it out to be. Christmas is a time for love, peace and reflection. It's about forgiveness and letting things that hurt you go. It's about starting anew and restoring relationships we may have abandoned. It's not just about spending crazy amounts of money or making sure your home looks better than your neighbor's.

That's why I'll spend this Christmas being thankful for the blessings me and my family received through the year. At the same time, I'll spend this Christmas like it's my last Christmas on earth (who knows, it could be). I plan to indulge in a lot of fun activities, but won't get worn out. Christmas is about having fun, and I intend to keep it so.

So I'm taking this season one day at a time. It's so easy to get stressed or overwhelmed during the holidays, and the best way to avoid that is to live in the moment. And the minute you realize you're not having a good time, stop. Or do something you'd actually enjoy.

So that was my Christmas message for the season. Have fun and remember, don't let the season get you down, because it's not supposed to! Make this your Best Christmas Ever!
