Jan 26 2011 - Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze Album Sales Numbers

This week marks week #10 for Lee Dewyze's "Live It Up" album and week #6 for Crystal Bowersox's "Farmer's Daughter", so my bar graphs are really starting to look pretty! Brian Mansfield on Idol Chatter posted the numbers as usual and Lee's sales subsided a bit from his strong showing last week, but Crystal's sales are holding up pretty well. Crystal continues to stay in the top 100 on BillBoard with todays #68 being her lowest showing to date. Lee is hanging into the top 200 at #183 after two improving weeks. I wonder if his appearance at the Bears-Packers game helped or will help his sales any. I am also curious to see which if either of them will appear in this year's American Idol season. Both Kris Allen and Adam Lambert appeared last season so hopefully both will get to perform on the show this year.

Total Sales and BillBoard 200 Placement - Jan 19, 2011

Another week, and more numbers from Brian Mansfield at USA Today (His Idol Chatter column)! Overall album sales were low again last week, but both Lee and Crystal managed to do alright. Crystal sold 7,000 more units of "Farmer's Daughter" (a 24% drop from last week, and a total of 123,000) but still managed to only fall from #47 to #54 on the BillBoard 200 chart. Lee had the MP3 version of his album, "Live It Up", on sale at Amazon.com and his sales actually went up (about 4,000 units) bringing him up the BillBoard chart to #122 (from #147) with total sales of 109,000. That makes two weeks in a row that Lee's BillBoard ranking has gone up. With the new season of American Idol starting tonight that may give them more publicity as well.

Another week, another sales chart!

From today's Idol Chatter data Crystal sold 9,000 more albums and Lee sold 4,000 more, only down 13% and 20% respectively from last week. Here is my latest graph. I realized I could also make a bar graph of their BillBoard 200 placement and make it go upside down since the lower the number the better. I love bar graphs!

Happy New Year! Time for my first numbers post of the year!

It is now 2011 and the end of the third week that Crystal Bowersox's album, "Farmer's Daughter" has been released. So my first post of the year includes a graph for the cumulative album sales of the winner and runner-up of Season 9, Lee DeWyze's "Live It Up" and Crystal's album. Both albums have now broken the 100,000 units level but are now going into January when album sales tend to slow down. Luckily both of them should be seeing radio airplay increasing for both of their singles (Lee's "Sweet Serendipity" and Crystal's "Farmer's Daughter") which can hopefully help album sales for both of them. One way to track how many new fans they pick up is by tracking the change in both FaceBook fans and Twitter followers. As of this moment Crystal has 155,346 FB fans and 29,000 Twitter followers, and Lee has 86,108 FB fans and 60,000 followers. The current numbers are not as important now as seeing how many increases they have in perhaps 1 or 2 weeks. As their singles receive more airplay and they make more appearances, hopefully more people will go online and add them in one of those two places. It does not really matter that Lee has more Twitter followers and Crystal has more FB fans, what matters is using each as a measure to see how many more fans each of them can pick up. It really is not a competition any more, folks, and they are both starting out with a solid but not huge fanbase of ~100K so let's see how well they both can do.
