American Idol Live Tour Cut to 30 Shows

American Idol Live Tour shows each season
Living here in St. Louis, home of Season 12 finalist Curtis Finch Jr., I was frantically excited to go to the opening American Idol Live show here at the Chaifetz Arena in July... NOT!

Actually it appears that many other people felt likewise as the St. Louis show has been cancelled along with the other first 9 scheduled shows. That means this year there will only be 30 shows, the same number as in the very first season of Idol. That, of course, meant I had to graph the number of shows so we can see how sad 30 shows looks, especially when compared to Seasons 5 and 6 that had about 60 shows, or even Season 10 with 49 or Season 11 with 46. The revenues drop substantially from Season 10 to Season 11, so with only 30 shows and even lower ratings, this season's tour should post even worse numbers. The Season 9 tour  had been a disappointment with $9.6 million in revenue over 44 shows, but Season 10 turned that around with $22 million over 47 shows followed by Season 11 with $14.4 million over 46 shows. I believe after this summer's tour the promoters will look back at Season 9 much more fondly. Where is Lee DeWyze when you need him?
