Four Idol Winners Remain in BillBoard Top 25!
This week if you check Hits Daily Double estimates, there are again four American Idol winners who are poised to end up in the BillBoard Top 200, but the orders of them has moved around a little bit. Phillip Phillip's "World from the Side of the Moon" continues to lead in his second week with sales of around 80K which should leave him somewhere from #4 to #6 on the chart (depending on One Direction's and Rihanna's sales.) His total sales will be very close to 250K after his first two weeks. Whereas last week Kelly's debut of her greatest hits album landed her at #11, on her second week her sales dropped by about two thirds to 25K, but still high enough to make sure she stays in the Top 25 (currently #22 on the HDD list.) Her total should be about 100K after two weeks. Similarly Carrie's "Blown Away" sales dropped over 60% as well from ~75K to a little over 25K, giving her again very similar numbers to Kelly. The only Idol winner to see his chart placement move up was "Christmas with Scotty McCreery" who saw a much smaller drop in sales from Black Friday sales than the others. His sales only fell about 20%, from 50K last week to about 40K this week. That means Scotty moved up from #21 on the BillBoard chart last week to #10 to #13 depending on the final numbers for Kid Rock, P!nk and the "Now That's What I Call Music 44" album (who buys those albums?). Scotty's sales should break the 200K barrier this week for sure this week.
These estimates allow me to update my total album sales graph until real numbers appear. Phillip's album and Kelly's greatest hits album now show up on my chart as little lines. Phillip's is the highest line except for "Clear As Day" and "Blown Away", just barely squeezing in above "Stronger"'s sales trend. It will be interesting to see if it can stay about "Stronger" once the holiday shopping season is over. Kelly's GH sales line is extremely close to "Trespassing" so it is a little hard to see (I made it green to be a little easier to distinguish.) I noticed that Carrie's sales trend now has just about touched "Clear As Day" showing that both albums hit the 1.04 million mark in about 32 weeks. That is completely irrelevant but still a nifty little fact! The little red line powering its way on the bottom of the chart is "Christmas With Scotty McCreery" which has now moved past the sales trends for both Lauren Alaina's "Wildflower" and Adam Lambert's "Trespassing". That is an interesting indicator of how the sales trajectory of a Christmas album is quite different from the sales trajectory of a more typical album, especially with CWSM and Wildflower being released at about the same times in the year (both mid October).
