I was happy to again see official numbers from the Idol Chatter blog at USA Today with real numbers for the American Idol albums. To celebrate I created a new BillBoard 200 chart for the latest Idol sales starting with the week of "Christmas with Scotty McCreery" (just because his album started in October which gives me some pretty viewable lines.) Scotty's album is the orange one (Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" is blue, Kelly Clarkson's "Greatest Hits" is light blue and Phillip Phillip's "World from the Side of the Moon" is green.) It is fun to watch how they all bounce around so much, especially comparing Scotty's and Carrie's which have been trading positions like dueling race cars. As Hits Daily Double predicted, Phillip was very steady, dropping only from #4 to #5 whereas Kelly and Carrie dropped in tandem, from #11 and #12 last week to #23 and #21 respectively this week. And Scotty actually improved to #12, his best chart position since his debut week, when he amazingly posted the same number of sales, 41K. Idol Chatter has the official total tallies for all the albums now, 245K for Phillip, 205K for CWSM, 1.036M for "Blown Away" and 99K for Kelly's "Greatest Hits".
Mandisa also is listed twice on the list ("It's Christmas" with 3K for 56K total, and "What If We Were Real" with 2K for 234K total), which again means the top 9 selling Idol albums lists 4 Idols with two albums each. Once again Kelly, Carrie and Scotty all have two albums on the list, with Kelly's "Stronger" again on the chart at #180 (5K with 983K total), Carrie's "Some Hearts" with another 3K (7.271M total) and 3K more for "Clear as Day" as well (1.13M). Those older platinum albums make great Christmas gifts and just keep on selling! The two Caseys (James and Abrams) also saw 1,000 units sell each pushing their totals to 61K and 19K respectively, and even Paul McDonald sold about 1,000 units of his EP to bring his total sales to about 3,000.
