BillBoard album ranking, orange = 'Clear As Day', blue = 'Stronger' |
After three straight months in the BillBoard Top 25 of all albums,
Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" just barely falls out (at #26 with 15K in sales for a total of 698K). But the first American Idol winner is replaced with the latest as Scotty McCreery's "Clear As Day" skyrockets back into the Top 25 to land at #21 (16K in sales with 997K in total sales.) That continues the trend that since Scotty's release last October, either he or Kelly has been in the Top 25 and once again, when one drops out, the other one moves back into it. What are the odds this would happen exactly like this with these two Idol winners? Plus it was exactly at Scotty's 13th week that Kelly's BillBoard rank topped his, and now on his 26th week (exactly 6 months) his BillBoard rank again passes Kelly's. It almost looks like they are working together as a tag team. It is obvious that this past week Scotty's sales jumped due to his appearance on Idol last Thursday and then his performance and winning at the ACM Awards on Sunday. But Kelly also appeared and won on the ACM Awards and her sales actually dropped. Nevertheless, now for the past six months there has always been an American Idol winner in the BillBoard Top 25. As long as either Kelly or Scotty can keep it up until the end of the month, Carrie should be able to keep that trend going in May. This week also has Scotty and Kelly knocking at the 1,000,000 and 700,000 sales levels respectively. You cannot say American Idol winners do not sell albums!
This is also "Clear As Day''s best sales week in 2012 (most of Scotty's sales were in a very impressive 2011.) With the release of his new single, "Water Tower Town", to country radio next week his sales should hopefully hold up pretty well for the next few weeks.
