Today was a good day for several American Idol alums, with a new Idol leading the pack on the BillBoard album chart. Season 5 ninth place finisher Mandisa garners her first #1 Christian album in 6 years (since her debut) and her highest charting album ever at #29 with "Overcomer". Using Roughstock's country chart numbers we can see that #26 sold 13K and #35 sold 11K so I am sure Mandisa sold at least around 12K in her first week. Her debut "True Beauty" sold 17K its first week and went on to sell over 200K, so "Overcomer" should continue to place well on the Christian chart for weeks to come. It will be interesting to see how well it places on the BillBoard 200 in coming weeks as well.
Other Idols did well on the BillBoard charts as well. Phillip Phillips "The World From the Side of the Moon" slipped only a couple places to move from #53 to #55, and his album has officially been certified platinum by the RIAA. That means to go with his two platinum singles he now has a platinum album too.
Two other Idol winners saw their chart position jump this week, with Kelly Clarkson's "Greatest Hits" album jumping back from #113 to #75, its best position in months, and Fantasia's "Side Effects of You" jumping exactly back to where it was two weeks ago, #125 after being at #155 last week. Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" had the furthest drop of the week (from #81 to #95), but for an album that has been out since May 2012, what can you expect? It has been one of the top 100 selling albums in the country for almost 16 months now! Lee DeWyze's "Frames" appears to have dropped out of the Top 200 after its first week, so I gave Mandisa  the little green diamond on the chart. Mandisa should stay in the Top 200 for a few weeks so she should at least get a line on my chart!
