Are Values Dead?

Today, there's little to separate people who use devious means to achieve their goals, and those who stick to "old fashioned" ideals of honesty, integrity and hard work. It's upsetting - and unfair -  to see someone go higher than you - especially when you've done all the hard work- and that person hasn't worked a day in his life.

It seems people are willing to trample all over you (and your hard work) while they end up being the big "winners" at life.

Which brings me to my question: do good values even matter today? Do we stick to age-old conventions and attain little, or go with the crowd and achieve a lot? Should we just simply "ditch" values like honesty, trust, integrity and ethics, and resort to any means necessary to get what we want?

I say no.

Values are NOT dead.

In fact, I think our world has never needed good values more than it does today. It's a crazy world- one in which it's easy to get lost if you don't hold your ground. We need to uphold the values our forefathers have taught us. Truth. Justice. Honesty. Hard work. Sincerity. Just because everyone around you is getting further without using just means, does not mean you can do the same.

I've said this a lot before (and pretty sure all of you have rolled your eyes at it) but you have to be true to yourself (cue the eye roll).

You can't just throw away your morals and your lessons and follow the path everyone else is. It may seem that you're wasting your time and efforts by following good principles, but in the end, it matters.

Values are as relevant today as they've ever been- it's our world that's changing. There are no real shortcuts to getting what you want. We have to make sure that the craziness of life doesn't get the better of us. We need to hold on to what we believe in.

Who do you think will die a happy man? The one who used false means all his life and achieved everything his heart desired? Or the one who stuck to truth, honesty and integrity, working hard every single day, caring for others and spreading love in the world? Even though it might look like he doesn't have much, he is the richest man on the planet.

What are your thoughts? Do you think we should keep on using old values (not matter how good) or should we just chuck them out the window and do what everyone else is doing?
