Angie Miller Ends up #3 in Season 12 of American Idol - Why Did I Not Believe DialIdol Scores This Year?

Season 12 - Top 3

Like many people on the MJ's BigBlog Poll, I was guessing Kree Harrison was going to end up the third place finisher for Season 12 of American Idol. In fact, the one contestant I was pretty sure would end up in the finale was Angie Miller, but she is the one who ended up in third. What I should have done was actually believed the DialIdol scores, which have actually been extremely accurate once the show gets down to the Top 3 and Top 2. Let's look at the Dial Idol scores for the Top 3 from Season 11, 10 and 9:
Season 11
Season 10
Season 9
By the Top 3, for the past three years the DialIdol score has been extremely accurate at not only picking  the three winners, but were also very close in selecting the runner up and third place contestant. The only mixup was between Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez last year, and their two numbers of 15.548 and 15.443 were extremely close together and too close to call (Joshua's score was a whopping 0.68% higher than Jessica's.)

This year the DialIdol scores between Candice Glover, Kree Harrison and Angie Miller are not that close at all, and it definitely correctly picked out Angie Miller as contestant #3 for Season 12. If we follow the history, Kree Harrison should easily win the competition and Candice Glover should be the runner up. In fact, for the past three weeks, Kree's DialIdol score has always beaten Angie's and Candice's with the only contestant receiving a higher DialIdol score than Kree in the past 3 weeks being Amber Holcomb (who also received far fewer total DialIdol votes.) So if we believe DialIdol Scores, Kree should win American Idol this year.

It could simply be the continued power of the Southern voting block that won the competition for Scotty McCreery (North Carolina) and Phillip Phillips (Georgia).  Is it really surprising that Kree (Texas) and Candice (South Carolina) mustered up more votes than Angie (Massachusetts)?

We will find out for sure next week!
