A Comparison: Scotty McCreery vs. Scotty McCreery
Due to a lack of American Idol sales numbers, I had to find something entertaining to compare since this is supposed to be the American Idol Statistics blog! I was intrigued by the fact that Scotty McCreery sold about 40K of his Christmas CD last week and about 18K of his CD this week. When was the last time we saw an American Idol debut an album of mostly cover songs with sales of about 40K its first week, and then in the mid teens the next week? The answer is.. Scotty McCreery in the Summer of 2011! So just for fun I thought I would compare the sales trend of "Christmas With Scotty McCreery" versus Scotty's "American Idol Season 10 Highlights" EP. Yes, I know they are two completely different types of albums with the EP being released during the summer when the Season 10 Tour was in progress, and the Christmas CD being released a month before the holiday shopping season. I am just curious to see how the two sales trends compare, especially since Roughstock actually has dependable sales numbers for country artists and I have a good history of the EP sales from last year. I am guessing sales of the Christmas CD will slow down a bit over the next few weeks (below the EP sales) and then take off again once Black Friday hits and overall CD sales rise. At least it will be fun to compare Scotty to himself, just so I will have something else to graph! Plus they both started out with such similar numbers so it will be interesting to see how the Christmas album sales rise and fall in comparison. After two weeks CWSM is just barely edging out the 2011 EP, 58,000 to 54,000. Let's see how long that can last.
