Idol Chatter Returns With Plenty of Numbers!

Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Early Christmas! It seems that USA Today's Idol Chatter did not want to miss the latest BillBoard topping release by an American Idol winner, so there is a new article extolling the sales of Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery and his latest Top 10 BillBoard album release, "Christmas with Scotty McCreery". Scotty's latest debuts at #4 on the chart with sales of 41K giving him three Top 10 debuts in a row. Since "Clear As Day" is off the Top 200 chart, I added his #4 to the end of his "Clear As Day" graph (in Christmas green, of course) showing how Scotty was Top 10 a year ago and he is Top 10 this year too! "Clear As Day" even had a mini celebration of its own this week, selling 2K units to bring the total to 1.119M. With Scotty's QVC sale yesterday, CAD is destined to have an even better sales number next week.

This week also marks week #52 that Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" has been out and on the BillBoard 200. Her chart position actually improved this week to #145 from #153 on sales of 3K, bringing her total scanned sales to 946K. A year ago she was #2 on the BillBoard 200 chart, and she is still on it a year later. That is some pretty impressive staying power. Carrie Underwood also saw an increase of sales, selling 14K more copies of "Blown Away" to reach 864K and improve from #32 to #25 this week. Scotty will probably still outsell her next week, but it will be interesting to see in 2 or 3 weeks how many units each will sell and where they will end up on the country charts.

Brian's list even had a new tally for Casey James's debut album (55K total) so I could update that one in my graph, and even another 2K in sales for Mandisa's "What If We Were Real" which was released way back in April 2011. I was not tracking her album back then, but she has had a very solid and steady sales over 18 months to reach a total sales of 222K. If she were on my total sales chart, she would currently have the sixth highest total sales of the most recent Idol albums behind "Clear As Day", "Stronger", "Blown Away", "Break the Spell" and "Wildflower":
Also note on this graph I am cheating and adding a second week for "Christmas With Scotty McCreery". With only one dot it would not appear on my graph! I will correct it with the actual numbers next week.
