Scotty's a Hit! Let the Scalping Begin!

Did you wonder who all was buying up all those "limited edition" $14.88 ZinePaks of Scotty McCreery's "Clear As Day" from Wal-Mart that were limited to just 80,000 units produced? Well, it seems that besides the rabid fans there were also some entrepreneurs across the country who bought them up and are now reselling them on Amazon and eBay. It looks like the going price online is about $25 so people are looking to earn a $10 profit on each unit especially now that "Clear As Day" looks like it will be a hit (BillBoard now projects a #1 ranking with 160,000 to 170,000 in first day sales.) With every success there are always folks trying to capitalize, and they are taking advantage of the opportunity. With many Wal-Mart stores apparently sold out of the ZinePaks, and with international fans without access to a Wal-Mart and who can not order online via Walmart.com, places like Amazon and eBay are the only choices for some folks.

The other great Season 10 Idol news is that Lauren Alaina has announced a new single release, "Georgia Peaches", which will be released to radio on October 24 and will be available for download next Tuesday (October 11) when the "Wildflower" CD releases. That means for her upcoming promotional performances next week she will not be forced to perform "Like My Mother Does" anymore! I am sure glad I was able to hear the 2 minute clip from RateTheMusic since iTunes still does not have 90 second clips of her album on-line yet. I did find a YouTube video of her performing it live from last weekend, but frankly that is still clipped and the live recording does not sounds nearly as good as the studio version:

You can always listen to the 30 second Amazon clip, and someone posted a video for the four RateTheMusic clips. I am looking forward to hearing the whole thing next week. I noticed even going from the 90 second iTunes clips for Scotty's songs you miss a lot of the build up when compared to the full tracks. I sure wish Scotty's second single had been an up-tempo number like "Georgia Peaches".

Now that "Clear As Day" is projected to have such good numbers it will be very interesting to see who ends up #1 and #2 on the country charts next week. Not only will Scotty and Lauren be running against each other, but Martina McBride and Hunter Hayes will be debuting that week as well. That will be a fun little competition to watch.
